Do you want to get to know God better? Does God seem distant, detached from you? Maybe it is because you have gotten your relationship to God all turned around, by waiting for God to come to you instead of you going to God.
Colossians 1:10 NLT says... "Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord... All the while, you will learn to know God better and better." God has given us all we need, his Word, his Son, and his Spirit. That's more than we will ever need in order to understand God, especially in this lifetime. The next step belongs to each of us. It's up to us to read God's Word (the Bible), to believe in his Son (Jesus Christ), to pray, and seek to follow the guidance of God through the Holy Spirit.
God is never one who forces himself on anyone. He earnestly desires a loving and meaningful personal relationship with you, but he won't force himself on you. This needs to be your part, voluntarily giving yourself to him. So, if you want to get to know God better -or just get to know about him- you must take the first step in approaching him. Through a revelation to John, Jesus presented the relationship that is possible with God as an invitation: "Listen! I am standing and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will eat together [as friend to friend]" Rev. 3:20 CEV.
Even now, God is making himself available to you, but you must respond to his invitation. Go to him. Open your heart to him. You can take him at his Word. All it takes is a little of your time and attention-reading his Word (the Bible) and talking (pray) to him. Start with a few minutes each day, with your breakfast, before you go to bed, and grow from there. You don't have to call ahead for an appointment. Remember, through his Son, Jesus Christ, God has already extended the invitation, and he is waiting for you to respond.
